A Werewoman Journal, part 1

Thursday 27th It's been so long, happened so many times that I know now not to fight her when she arrives. I've learned tricks to ease the handover, and mostly she reciprocates. Scratching each others backs, maybe. We make it easy on each other now and it's for the best... But I hate it. Twenty years, twelve or thirteen full moons a year. Quick maths says tonight is something around my 250th transformation... Crazy to think I've been living with this so long. I fought it so hard at first. For years I just couldn't let her exist without a scrap. I'd lock myself away, chain myself up. I'd travel to the middle of nowhere so she wouldn't have a chance to spread. None of it worked, not really. There's no asserting myself against whatever this is. It's who we are, who I am, for better or worse. We're better off the way we do things now. I've learned to read lunar calendars so I can arrange my life. Days off work, or working from home, that kind...

A Job Opportunity with Dr Matthews

Image
Dr Lou Jenson shuffled nervously in his seat. He had known his interviewer, Dr Matthews, way back in med school but the difference in the way their careers turned out was frankly embarrassing. Previous parts here: Part 5 Marcie Duncan didn’t live too far from Ben. Everyone at our school knew the place - it was a palace. Her dad owned half the town and wasn't shy about reminding us. And Marcie, well, she always behaved like the worst kind of princess; brattish, entitled, superior. But there was something else in her too, a curious hardness and undeniable bravery. As I walked I thought hard. She was a far more terrifying prospect than Ben and Nick. Though they’d beaten and humiliated me countless times, they were predictable and kind of dumb. Marcie Duncan was a tiger. There were men milliing about outside her house, none of them good looking enough to be ASEC cases. Trying to project confidence, I walked up to the door and knocked. It was opened by Morgan Leaming, one of Marcie's closest friends. "Ew, gross. What do you want, Jordan?" I was used to my classmates talking to me this way, but this was probably the first time Morgan had ever addressed me directl...
